INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY 2022

Today (Tuesday 8 March) is International Women's Day 2022 - a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day, which has been occurring since the first IWD gathering in 1911, also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.

This year's theme is #BreakTheBias and is all about gender inclusivity, breaking the bias and calling out gender bias, discrimination and stereotyping every time we see it to collectively forge women's equality and break the bias.

I'm a big feminist, and I think it's so important to appreciate and celebrate the incredible women in the world - whether that be celebrities we look up to, our friends, our mothers, our sisters, our extended families, our colleagues or previous historical figures. So, in celebration of International Women's Day 2022, I'm shining the spotlight on some of the fantastic women who inspire me in my daily life.

My Mum

I'm going to keep this one short and sweet, and possibly rather soppy: my Mum is my best friend and I truly don't know what I'd do without her. Literally, I'd be lost - and probably very, very bored. She's the best role model I could ever ask for, and I'm constantly amazed at how she handles life - both at home, socially and professionally. I couldn't ask for a better person to guide me through life.

Taylor Swift

I'm sure this will come as a surprise to absolutely no-one. I love Taylor Swift and I am so proud to call myself a Swiftie. When I look at the incredible things that she's done, I'm truly astounded - it's a pretty common thing to hear that 'Taylor Swift is the music industry' but, when you think about it, she kind of is. The records she's broken, the music she's released, the impact she's had - she's truly paved the way for so many artists in so many ways and it's truly inspirational. I think she's had to take a lot in the media and with the whole Scooter Braun situation but her perseverance has been amazing, and I am so excited to hear the rest of her re-recorded albums, as well as any other future projects in the works. I can only hope for a tour too! What a woman.

Natalie Pinkham

I'm a huge Formula 1 fan and I'm truly obsessed with Natalie Pinkham. She's had an amazing career so far and it's especially great to see her making such waves in the Formula 1 world. If you didn't already know, in 2021, Natalie became the first woman to commentate on an F1 session on British TV when she led Sky's commentary of FP1 at the 2021 Bahrain Grand Prix. I love to see the success of women in general but there's just something about women being successful in traditionally male-dominated sectors that makes it even more special. Natalie is an absolute queen.

Gina Martin

Gina's campaigning is really what introduced me to her - you might know her as the woman who successfully campaigned to make upskirting illegal in the UK (the legislation became official on April 12 2019) - and I've been following her since probably 2018. I'm so inspired by her activism and I'm really impressed by what she chooses to do with her platform. She's a huge advocate of gender equality and a real change-maker, and I think that's really amazing to see - definitely a woman to watch.

Little Mix

I feel like this is a pretty obvious one for me. I love Little Mix and you can regularly find me listening to their bops, but I'm also so inspired by their attitudes and actions towards social issues. The girls are strong feminists and are constantly enforcing female empowerment - whether that be through their music or their words - and I love that. They're also strong supporters of social movements such as BLM, and are genuinely great role models. I think it's especially important in today's day and age that young girls, especially, have solid role models to look up to and Little Mix are exactly that for their fans.
