REVIEW: EMILY IN PARIS

If you've been anywhere on social media during the past week, I'm sure you're well aware that Netflix's new series, starring my forever girl crush Lily Collins, Emily in Paris dropped on the streaming platform on Friday.

The show, from Sex and The City creator Darren Starr, follows Emily (Collins) as a twenty-something marketing professional as she moves from Chicago to Paris to bring an 'American point of view' to a small French luxury marketing firm. There's just one problem... Emily doesn't speak French - and she's slightly reluctant to adapt properly to the French culture, using her iPhone as a translator and expecting her colleagues to just go with her ideas; she even gets called a 'basic bitch' by a top fashion designer (though she fully embraces this). In the midst of her move to Paris and new job role, Emily manages to become an overnight Instagram sensation and social media influencer.

The 10-episode series has been met with criticism from many for it's representation of Parisians as being stuck up and snobby and the show has been described by Twitter users as 'embarrassing' whilst the French have supposedly been mocking it and many have been encouraging others not to watch the series. The criticism continues in the wake of the cancellations of popular Netflix shows GLOW and Teenage Bounty Hunters

The show, honestly, is my dream. The fashion is fantastic (I'm literally obsessed) and I genuinely want to move to Paris now. Yes, it might be cringey at times but it's easy to watch and generally enjoyable - the perfect show to binge on a miserable day. In fact, I watched every episode back-to-back on the day it was released and I have 0 regrets. With everything going on in the world at the moment, sometimes all you want - or need - is something easy, something guilt-free, something that doesn't take all of your energy to watch, something fun and chick-flicky and that's exactly what Darren Starr has given us with Emily in Paris. It's the perfect show for right now and it's just what I needed. Oh, and I'm a little bit in love with Gabriel (trust me, you'll know what I'm talking about when you watch it).

Despite the widespread criticism, I personally am very hopeful for a second season of Emily in Paris and can't wait to see what happens for her next but, if you haven't watched the show yet and are on the hunt for something easy and fun to watch, give it a go - you might love it, you might hate it but I guarantee you'll be hooked (even if it's ends up as a hate-viewing). Me? I'll be giving it another watch... and dreaming of my fantasy life in Paris.

Emily in Paris is now available to stream on Netflix.
