IMAGINE DRAGONS EVOLVE WORLD TOUR | GIG REVIEW

If you're a fan of Imagine Dragons, you'll probably know that they are currently on their Evolve world tour. The tour is taking them quite literally around the world and, most recently, the band have completed the UK leg of the tour. I was lucky enough to manage to get tickets to their Birmingham show on the 24th February so I ended up going home for a couple of nights before heading to Birmingham with my Mum for the show. So, without further ado, here is my review.

As usual, we'll start with the support act - K. Flay. She's an American singer and, let me tell you - she has some absolute bops. I'd never heard of her before this and, to be completely honest, I probably wouldn't typically gravitate towards her music but I was pleasantly surprised. Maybe I wouldn't have previously listened to her music, but I'm probably going to give it another listen now that I've seen her live - I do think she's worth a listen if you have a few spare minutes.

Moving on; Imagine Dragons always put on a great show. Their music is simply some of the best music around - they've got the feel good songs, the sad songs, love songs; every kind of song. All with a much deeper meaning than what appears on the surface. They're a band that are so outspoken and passionate about more than just their music - and, while it's not extremely uncommon in today's world, it's refreshing.

Here's the set list:

  • I Don't Know Why
  • It's Time
  • Gold
  • Whatever It Takes
  • I'll Make It Up To You
  • Mouth Of The River
  • Yesterday
  • All The Things That I've Done *The Killers cover
  • Start Over
  • Demons
  • Rise Up
  • Next To Me
  • On Top Of The World
{B-stage - in the crowd}
  • I Bet My Life
  • Bleeding Out / Warriors
  • It Comes Back To You
{Main stage}
  • Thunder
  • Believer
{Encore}
  • Walking The Wire
  • The Fall
  • Radioactive

This wasn't the first time I've seen Imagine Dragons live - I saw them back in November of 2015 on their Smoke + Mirrors world tour - and so I knew what to expect, in some way. They're a band with immense talent, that much is obvious just by listening to their albums. Their sound remains the same, yet changes so much each and every time they release an album - Evolve was no different, and neither was this sold out tour.

Dan Reynolds, the frontman, has a stage presence that's comparable to none - it's a presence that is infectious. It's obvious how much he loves what he does - and how grateful he is to be in the position he's in. He makes a point of thanking bands like The Killers (hence The Killers' cover) for putting their native Las Vegas on the map. If that isn't humble, then I don't know what is.

The band always make a point of discussing social issues. The last time I saw them live, they were bringing attention to the refugee crisis. This year, the focus was more on being yourself - no matter what race, sexuality, gender, nationality, and so on. To not let anyone or anything change who you are. To not let anything divide us - whether that's terrorism, hatefulness or anything else. To break the stigma around mental health. Imagine Dragons, especially Reynolds, want to make a change - and I think that's incredible.

In short, it was an incredible show with an equally important message behind it. The talent of the band is immense and the show was in no way disappointing - and the crowd was loving it. But what can I say? I'm never disappointed with the band or their music. My top song picks from the night were I Don't Know Why, Start Over (both are my favourite songs from their Evolve album), It's Time, Radioactive (of course) and my all time favourite song ever, On Top Of The World. So yeah, the show (and the band) get a huge thumbs up from me and I really would recommend anyone who gets the chance to see them life - trust me, you won't be disappointed.
