THE AMATEURS BOOK REVIEW

You may know that I am avid reader - an actual book fanatic, and book reviews aren't something I tend to write about on my blog (at least, not very often). However, I sometimes read books that I feel like I need to write about on my blog. This book is one of them. This is my book review of The Amateurs by Sara Shepard.

Sara Shepard is hands down my favourite author, of all time. If you didn't know, she's written tonnes of books, including two of my favourite series' ever - Pretty Little Liars and The Lying Game. Every single time Sara writes and releases a new book, I get it - either for my birthday, Christmas or I buy it for myself, either way, I make sure I get it and this was no exception.

This is the blurb:

Nothing bad ever happened in this town, right?

It's been five years since Aerin Kelly's sister disappeared, and a year since her body was found in woodland near her family's home. But her killer has never been found, and the police have closed the case. Aerin is desperate. What really happened that day?

Then she meets Seneca and Maddy. Amateur crime-solvers, they've got their own reasons for wanting to help Aerin. And maverick Brett rocks up too - he has his secrets as well, but he's also a damn fine detective. If Aerin is ever going to find out the truth about Helena, she needs these guys - and she knows it. As secrets begin to unravel and betrayals are uncovered, shocking truths start to come to light. The Amateurs are dying to know the truth - and it's getting dangerously close.

Based around the disappearance and murder of high school senior Helena Kelly, Aerin Kelly (Helena's younger sister) is desperate to find out what really happened to her and so she reaches out to a message board called Case Not Solved, through which she meets Seneca, Maddy, Brett and, later, Madison. Full of twists and turns, and plenty of secrets and problems along the way, I thoroughly enjoyed unraveling the mystery of who killed Helena, and why they did it.

Like I mentioned, it's full of twists and I honestly could not put it down. At one point, I thought I'd had it all figured out but, oh how I was wrong! It's captivating, exciting and incredibly well written. Sara Shepard writes in way that forces you to keep reading. Even when you aren't reading her books, you're thinking about them and this was no exception to that. The plot was suspenseful and the ending - don't even get me started on the ending. PURE GENIUS. I was shocked, as in my brain hurts. I cannot wrap my head around the ending - it was shocking and totally unexpected. Incredible.

As per usual, I was not disappointed with this book. Of course, Sara never disappoints me with her writing - I own 27 of her books and I am thrilled that she will be releasing a follow up to The Amateurs in the Summer. I absolutely cannot wait, and will be pre-ordering it as soon as it becomes available. Overall, I was hooked on this book (as I'm sure you will have guessed by now) and, if you haven't read it yet, I thoroughly urge you to do so. I genuinely loved it so shoutout to you, Sara. Forever creating incredible stories. The Amateurs definitely gets a 5/5 rating from me.
