PEGGY PORSCHEN CAKES | LONDON

If you've been anywhere in the Instagram scene and / or blogosphere recently, I'm sure you'll be familiar with the very pink, very beautiful Peggy Porschen Cakes. Located in the Belgravia area of London, it's a hotspot for Instagrammers, bloggers and cake lovers and I, for one, constantly see it on my social feeds so you could say that it's been on my London bucket list. if you will, for a while now. I popped down to the parlour on Valentines Day (so maybe this post is slightly overdue) with my friend to see if it's really worth the hype.

My first thoughts: how the hell am I supposed to find this place? So the nearest tube stations are Victoria and Sloane Square. I won't lie to you, we originally went to Victoria - didn't work out and we ended up going to Nando's and then hopping back on the tube to Sloane Square, which worked out a lot better so, if you're anything like us, go to Sloane Square tube station.

Peggy Porschen's parlour is Instagram famous so, obviously, we were expecting queues - we thought 'oh yeah it'll be like a 20 minute queue or something, that'll be fine'. Reality check: nope. We queued for literally two hours. It was raining and I couldn't exactly feel my fingers but, you know what? All is good in the world of Instagram when you know that you're going to get that dream snap.

The interior is small - very pretty and visually appealing but small nonetheless. There are six vintage style bistro tables inside, with bookshelves full of Peggy Porschen's books and gifts available for purchase. The menu is simply extensive, with permanent fixtures on the menu along with limited edition, festive themed cakes too. As it was V-Day, I settled with the fluttering hearts vanilla cloud drip cake (a Valentines special) at £7.95 per slice, and a simple latte at £3.60.

I'm sure you won't be surprised to find out that the cake was incredible - light, fluffy and beautiful - probably sent from the heavens, actually. I'm pretty sure that I took about a hundred photos of it, but thats so okay with me. Do it for the gram and all that, right? And the coffee. Oh, the coffee. Delicious - a step up from the basic Costa Coffee latte, very visually appealing and generally enjoyable.

Our second trip - I settled for the vanilla cloud layer cake (incredible, obviously).
The service at Peggy Porschen's parlour is incredible - the staff are friendly, speedy and very accommodating. It's a genuinely lovely trip out. Yes, it's an expensive one - at almost £15 for a coffee, cake and a tip - but it's not really one that you'd do very often and, to be completely honest, what else would you expect from somewhere that's just a stone's throw away from the Queen and the Made in Chelsea cast?

I actually popped back a couple of weeks ago with two of my other friends - a Monday lunchtime, this time - and the queue wasn't long at all - we got a table within ten minutes of our arrival so, while the queuing-for-two-hours-for-entry situation is kind of annoying, I think it's all about pre-planning your trip and getting the timing spot on but, either way, I'd do it all over again. Fifty times over. Those cakes are what dreams are made of. And I'm sure my Instagram followers would agree.
