The tour has taken the band literally all over the country - top to bottom, side to side - and it all concluded this past weekend at London's O2 Academy in Brixton, after the band's O2 Academy Birmingham gig. The O2 Academy is a great venue - it's one that I've visited a fair few times before. It's similar to Nottingham's Rock City in terms of vibe but the O2 is bigger (and the floors are less sticky).
First things first: support acts. The first support act were a band called Night Riots - California natives with a load of banging tunes. I'm actually shocked that I, as a fan of these kind of indie-rock-alternative bands, hadn't previously heard of them but, with that being said, I was very impressed with their performance and have been listening to a lot of their music since - my top song picks are Back To Your Love, Remedy and Breaking Free. Definitely give them a listen if you haven't already.
The second support act was Coasts - again, a band that I knew of but had never properly listened to. Oh what a mistake that was. I was incredibly impressed with the band and shocked (shook as some may say) at how good they were, and how I had never heard their music before. Again, I've been constantly listening to their music since - top picks are Oceans (arguably their most popular / well known song), You and Modern Love, although all of their songs are definite bops.
The set list was great (would you expect anything less, though?!) - a mixture of fan favourites, songs from their album, 100, and some new tunes from their upcoming album, DARE. Here it is:
- Summer
- Still Got Blood
- We Could Be
- Never Enough
- Piece By Piece
- Alive
- You Don't Want It With Me
- You & Me
- Sycamore Tree
- Bad For You
- Flickin' Your Hair
- Rock My Way
- She's Casual
- [ Encore ]
- Dare
- Bonfire
Again, like last year's tour, the crowd was a little chaotic but who cares when the audience are having that much fun? Even at times when people were stood in front of me or jumping up and down meaning I couldn't actually see the stage, it didn't matter. The music and the atmosphere was enough. It's these kind of gigs that I live for - that buzz that you get from hearing your favourite bands and musicians live - it's only for an hour and a half but you're fully enjoying every minute of being there and experiencing it that it instantly justifies any money you've spent on a ticket and all of the miles you've travelled. It's exhilarating. Criticise The Hunna for whatever you like but you cannot deny that they put on an incredible show.
For me, The Hunna are always 10/10 live - I'm never disappointed. And I'm very excited to hear their second album when it releases in May of this year - though I do expect that it'll be just as good as their debut. If you've never heard any of their music, I really do urge you to do so - my top picks are definitely Piece By Piece, Waiting, Dare and, of course, fan faves Bonfire and She's Casual. And, as recommended in last year's gig review, please go to one of their gigs and experience it yourself - I genuinely don't think you would regret it if you're into this kind of indie-rock-alternative music.
You can listen to their new single Flickin' Your Hair here and can pre-order their second album, DARE on iTunes here.
