NEW HOPE CLUB, SHEPHERD'S BUSH | GIG REVIEW

If you know me, you'll know that I love a good gig. There's nothing better than live music - and the atmosphere that comes with it. It's genuinely my favourite thing in the world. So, knowing that, it won't come as a surprise when I tell you that I have been to (yet another) gig recently and, shockingly - or not - I'm reviewing it.

Firstly, yes, this post is slightly (aka very much) overdue as the gig I am referring to was in fact on the 2nd - sorry - but I'm sure we can overlook my lack of organisation in terms of blogging lately.

Anyway, New Hope Club are a British band - a pop / rock trio, who formed back in 2015 and are signed to The Vamps' record label, Steady Records. Fans of The Vamps in particular will know the band through The Vamps' tours - on which New Hope Club have been a support act a number of times. Fast forward a few years and, in 2018 alone, the NHC boys have just completed their own fanfest tour, an arena tour as support for The Vamps and now, two back-to-back sold out headline shows at the iconic Shepherd's Bush Empire in London.

I attended the second of the two shows, on Saturday 2nd June and, quite simply, had a great time. I'm never disappointed with New Hope Club - they're pretty much all my age and it's genuinely lovely to see such talented people doing what they love and doing it well. I'm not going to lie, it stresses me out that they are so talented and successful at our age - I'm really not talented, nor successful - but, when you watch them perform live, it's clear to see why they're doing so well. They obviously love it.

In fact, Blake Richardson has a very similar stage presence to that of Brad Simpson (of The Vamps) - and the crowd love it. Their fans seem largely younger teens - though not entirely - my friend and I both noted that we felt like we were some of the oldest people in the audience, at 19. That's not a bad thing, though. Their fans are intense - in a good way. The crowd was one of the most excitable I've seen in a while, actually. Everyone was loving it - they were so happy to be there and the atmosphere was simply infectious.

I have to admit, despite not being overly impressed with the support act (probably because we're hardly their target audience), they - Max and Harvey - did get the crowd going and the venue was buzzing with excitement.

Here's New Hope Club's set list:

  • Tiger Feet
  • Medicine
  • Perfume
  • Let Me Down Slow
  • Good Day
  • Friend of a Friend
  • Oh Cecelia (The Vamps cover)
  • Whoever He Is
  • Crazy
  • The Beatles Mash Up
  • Start Over Again
  • Why Oh Why
  • Fixed

To put it simply, New Hope Club are most definitely rising stars. They're a great band, who are really genuine and you can see how much they love what they do - and how grateful they are to be in the position that they're in. But it's all down to their hard work and talent - because, at the end of the day, that's all that matters: talent. I, for one, am really looking forward to seeing what the future holds for the band and - if you haven't already listened to their music - I really recommend doing so.

On another note, I apologise for the lack of blog posts lately. Although my summer has pretty much only just begun, I've actually been working 9-5 Monday to Friday (your gal's gotta pay her rent) and so haven't had an overly large amount of time to do much blogging but I'm determined to get some better content up very soon! Just bare with me.
