FATHER'S DAY GIFT GUIDE | 2018

Father's Day. My least favourite gift-buying occasion. And no, it's not all about the gifts - it's a day on which we show our appreciation and pay our respects to our father's (and father-figures). A day that should be full of love and appreciation - one way in which we choose to show our appreciation is through giving a heartfelt gift. But it's not always as easy as just picking up the perfect gift. If my Dad is anything to go by, gift-purchasing is a tough task - so worry not, I'm here to share with you a small (but hopefully effective) compilation of gift ideas perfect for Father's Day - which, by the way, is Sunday 17th June, if you didn't already know.

Event tickets

If you do this right, it can be one of the best gift ideas. Does your Dad have a favourite sport? Band? Singer? Event? If he does, why not get him tickets to ___ (fill in the blank) for Father's Day? So, my Dad really enjoys watching the horse racing, so a great gift idea for me would be to buy him tickets for a race meeting - and I know he'd enjoy it.

Food and / or alcohol

I mean, can you ever go wrong with food and alcohol? Probably not. But, again, if your Dad has a fave - stock him up!

Clothing - or socks!

Um, can you even go wrong here? Simple, yet so incredibly effective.

Trashy (I'm joking) souvenirs or merchandise

Not trashy as in trashy but more so tacky, cringey - you know what I mean. Favourite TV show? Get him some merchandise for that show. Whatever it is, they key is to tailor it to his tastes, as such - for example, my dad loves a good animal pen so I always buy him an animal pen (it's a great gift).

A good ol' day out

It's not all about the money you spend. It's about spending time with your loved ones. A good old day out - whether that be to your local pub, a walk, a fancy restaurant or anywhere more (or less) extravagant, it's something you can do together. We're all about making memories over here.

Something he's mentioned

Something practical, or not so practical, can be a great gift - if he's mentioned it, you know it's something he wants and would use. It's even better because it means he won't have to buy it himself.

Simple acts of kindness

Again, it's not about the money. Love and kindness are the two things characterising the day - just be nice. Get him a drink, cook a meal, wash the car - I don't know. It's the simple things that keep them happy (at least, that's the case with my Dad).

I know this little gift guide is not extensive in any way but I hope it's given you some basic ideas of what to do / get your Dad if you're stuck - just remember that it's a day in which you should show your appreciation. Spend time with each other, don't get too hung up on the money side of things. It's all about love!
