ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS PRISM PALETTE | REVIEW

If you're a make up junkie like myself, you'll probably know that Anastasia Beverly Hills launched their 2017 holiday collection back in October. The collection consists of a variety of ABH faves - a glow kit, blush kits, liquid lipsticks and an eyeshadow palette. The entire collection is beautiful, and the majority of it is on my wish list, however, the palette was at the top of my list. After a bit of a wait, I finally managed to purchase the Prism palette at the end of October (there was originally an issue shipping to the UK) and I've been testing it out for the past couple of weeks.

First things first: packaging. I think the packaging is stunning. The palette itself is typical cardboard packaging with a velvet / felt covering, just like the packaging for the Modern Renaissance palette. It's black and features a geometric design. The design and material of the packaging is very pretty, I definitely love how it looks, but I have found that it gets dirty quite quickly - quicker than the Modern Renaissance palette, actually. Partly because it's black, the marks show up quite clearly (for example, if I got foundation on it) and the same thing goes for things getting stuck to the material easily.

I'll just give you a quick rundown of the basic facts about the palette. The palette retails at £43 (the price has increased from £41, though I'm not sure why) and is described as 'a luxe holiday eye shadow collection with fourteen shades featuring universal neutrals and prismatic metallics'. The palette, as mentioned in the description, has 14 shadows at 0.7g each and they are a mixture of matte and metallic shades - you get seven of each. The palette features a mirror and does come with a double ended brush, which is actually quite good - I really rate ABH palette brushes.

The shade selection is beautiful. It's not necessarily the kind of palette I would typically go for but there was something that attracted me to it when it launched. It's very different for me personally but I'm really loving it. I think the palette definitely has a few more wearable shades (like the copper / gold toned shades) but also has some more fun shades - like the lime green shade and metallic green. There are definitely some shades that I prefer to others, and there are some that I found really hard to work with, despite them swatching well or looking incredible in the pan.

When the palette first launched, I was incredibly drawn to the purple-y shade, 'Dimension', and I still love it but I just don't think it performed that well on my eyes - maybe it was how I was applying it, I don't know, it just didn't give the payoff that I expected it to. The same goes for the golden shade 'Pyramid' - I just could not get the shadow to pick up on my brush. It worked a little better by using my finger tips but wouldn't work at all with my brush, which was quite disappointing. With that being said, there are some shades that are quite clearly stand out shades for me - I love 'Saturn', 'Eternal', 'Lure', 'Sphinx' and 'Unity'. I think the matte shades in general are great - they're really smooth and blend out effortlessly and the metallic shades are also generally nice (with the exception of a couple).

In general, I am impressed with the palette. Yes, I'm slightly disappointed with a couple of shades but fingers crossed I'll be able to make them work with more practice and experimentation with the palette. I still find the palette very appealing and slightly out of my comfort zone, but I definitely think it works as a holiday palette - it's beautifully festive to me. I'm rarely disappointed with Anastasia Beverly Hills products and, overall, this wasn't a disappointment either - I'll one hundred percent continue to buy her products because, quite honestly, no brand compares.
